by | May 2, 2023 | Personal Injury

On the road, e-scooter accidents occur for many different reasons. If you ride an e-scooter to work on a daily basis or occasionally ride one of these devices for fun, it is essential to have a clear understanding of the risks that you face and focus on your safety. Every year, e-scooter accidents result in many injuries and deaths as a result of accidents involving vehicles.

It is important to review data on e-scooter accident risk factors and safety measures that you can take to reduce your chances of becoming involved in an accident.

Avoiding an accident while riding an e-scooter

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission covers various safety measures that you can take while riding an e-scooter to reduce your chances of becoming involved in a traffic collision. For example, you should keep in mind that the tires on e-scooters are small and an uneven surface or object on the road could cause you to come to an abrupt stop or fall off (which is especially dangerous around moving vehicles). You should assume that drivers cannot see you, avoid moving in an unpredictable manner and use your bell or horn to help drivers notice your presence.

E-scooter traffic accident statistics

The CPSC states that between 2017 and 2021, micromobility product injuries and deaths increased significantly. In fact, injuries rose 127% (77,200). E-scooter accident injuries rose the most, and 44% of emergency department visits due to e-scooter accidents involved those renting a device.

If you suffered an injury due to a driver’s negligence, you should do everything in your power to hold the driver answerable.
